If you start getting all your Christmas presents now, you can avoid the crowds in the shops at the end of December. While you're thinking about what to get your friends and loved ones, there's one thing you should keep in mind. Sure, you're giving from the heart and you've put a lot of thought into it. But it is also a pleasure when you make it possible for the recipient to exchange the gift. It's easy to end up with a duplicate under the Christmas tree, something that doesn't fit, isn't to your liking or is even defective. It's better to keep the receipt. But what if the receipt gets lost in the pre-Christmas rush? We tell you how to archive your receipts and vouchers clearly in fileee and which exchange rights you can rely on.
Although many shops are accommodating when it comes to exchanges, you do not have a general right to exchange. If you want to exchange Christmas presents, you have to reckon with these rules:
The shop has a statutory warranty obligation towards you. If the gift has defects, is defective or does not deliver what it promises, you can complain about the goods. Your right to a warranty lasts for two years. However, the retailer is not obliged to pay you cash and can instead offer to repair or replace the goods.
However, if a pair of jeans you bought doesn't fit or you don't like a toy you gave away, you'll have to hope for the retailer's goodwill. The exchange conditions depend on the retailer and can vary. The best thing to do is to find out what the procedure is when you buy the product.
If you ordered the gift on the internet, by post or by telephone, the so-called protection for sales contracts applies. Within 14 days of receiving the goods, you can return the item without giving any reason. You will then get your money back. Purchases made on the internet therefore have a clear advantage when it comes to the possibility of exchanging goods. Personalised and personally made products are usually excluded from this right of withdrawal.
Are you actually allowed to exchange with a (digital) copy of the receipt? Yes. However, the receipt must be on paper when you exchange the item. If you have scanned the receipt in advance, you should print it out for the retailer. Of course, some companies are more accommodating than others. In connection with our article " Returns at IKEA - Digital, yes or no?", many readers told us that they were able to exchange items at IKEA without a receipt at all. You are allowed to exchange with a copy, because many sales slips are printed on thermal paper. By the way: In case of a warranty claim, not only the receipt is valid. Your transfer voucher, the price tag or a witness statement are also sufficient.

It's annoying when the receipt gets lost in the Christmas rush. If you have saved the receipts for the Christmas presents after all, you probably won't take them with you to the Christmas feast or party. Another problem: receipts are usually printed on thermal paper. After some time, they fade or become illegible due to creases.
Just do it differently this year! Be proactive with your receipts and scan them directly with the fileee app. With tags, you can link information such as Christmas gift or the name of the gift to the receipt. This way they are safe, you always have them with you and can find them again quickly.
You can scan paper receipts and invoices with the app. With a few tips, you can quickly make the perfect scan.
Some invoices from the online shop are sent to you as a PDF by email. Link your email account with your fileee account. This way, the PDF invoices automatically end up in fileee.
If you receive an invoice only as an HTML email, you can print it as a PDF without any problems. All you need is a PDF tool that can act as a printer, e.g. the free PDF24 Creator. You can then upload the documents to the fileee web app using drag & drop. Or you can save them in GoogleDrive or Dropbox if you have linked your cloud accounts with fileee.
fileee recognises the text in your scans. This means you no longer have to spend time searching for the invoice and warranty receipt from your broken smartphone. With the full text search , you can quickly find your purchase receipts again. Enter "iPad" or "Nexus" in the search window and fileee will show you all documents that contain your search term.
