Since last week, IKEA has a new " lifetime" return policy. Anyone who bought their furniture after 25.08.2014 can simply return it without any further restrictions. All you need is the invoice or receipt from your purchase. (Note: In the meantime, IKEA has rowed back: read more).
Actually a good thing. Of course, it would be best if IKEA would also accept digitised invoices and receipts. Such a receipt is quickly scanned "for life" and one is prepared in case of an eventuality, should one no longer like Billy&Co.
Unfortunately, you can't find out what IKEA thinks about this on their homepage. So we asked IKEA: Digital, yes or no? - The answer comes relatively quickly and is rather sobering:
"The right of return can only be exercised with the original purchase receipt, as we make appropriate notes on it. This excludes the possibility of the same receipt being used more than once for exchange."
Regardless of whether one can understand this reason or not, the question arises: where do I keep my receipt for life in order to actually make use of my lifetime right of return? The classic Leitz folder is out of the question for me. Two different filing systems cost too much time and I am convinced that "digital is better".
